Strategic Plan

MISSION STATEMENT

Junior League of Eau Claire is an organization committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Our purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The Junior League reaches out to women of all races, religions and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism.

GOALS

  • To serve as a catalyst and leader in affecting community improvement efforts through broad based involvement with the community.

  • To create a supportive environment for the personal and volunteer development of women through formal and experiential training.
  • To reach out to women of all races religions and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism.
  • To value and include a variety of perspectives in the organization’s membership, decision-making process, practices and program development.
  • To accomplish the purpose of the organization through sound financial and resource management.

OBJECTIVES AND STRATEGIES FOR 2007-2008

A. To increase membership by 12 members---in all categories provisionals, actives, returning sustainers and sustaining emeritus
Strategies
1. Conduct a membership drive—invite prospects August-October
2. Host a prospective new member informational meeting in September or October
3. Hold a provisional/mentor training and dinner in December--This event would have the mentor and provisional attending training together---one session of 2 hours plus the dinner.
4. Follow-up training to be held in early February with the Provisional Counselor
5. Facilitate the mentor program
6. Plan a holiday party for provisionals, actives, sustainers and sustaining emeritus
7. Encourage open invitations to prospective members to attend GMM and social functions
8. Organize and facilitate provisional projects

B. Encourage and promote member leadership and training development
Strategies

1. Continue learning about of AJLI
2. Evaluate member events and programs
3. Encourage and prepare members for leadership positions
4. Review current structure of the League and recommend changes
5. Continue sustainer correspondence and increase participation
a. Promote and support programs for sustainers
b. Invite sustainers to all active member events
c. Communicate status of League through the newsletter
d. Extend personal invitations to sustainers for all fundraisers
6. Support AJLI conferences---investigate grants available and solicit scholarships
7. Support activities for Board and membership training
8. Complete the handbook update and make available to all members
9. Encourage attendance at the Midwest Leadership Conference

C. To support community impact programs related to the JLEC mission
Strategies
1. Provide information to members about the community to
create knowledge about and increase awareness
2. Refine, conduct and evaluate the Back to School program
3. Investigate new opportunities for community service

D. Increase community awareness of JLEC
Strategies
1. Publish GMM and JLEC events on the Chamber community calendar, Leader-Telegram plus area television and radio broadcasts with Public Service Announcements (PSA)
2. Increase corporate support of Back to School program
3. Promote JLEC through the use of the brochures and the JLEC exhibit/display setup
4. Continue and expand the relationship with the media
5. Research a large impact project---to leave a permanent legacy for JLEC

E. Continue to review budget expenses and move toward the 70/30 rule-70% to community needs and 30% for operating expenses
Strategies
1. Monitor and maintain the Endowment Trust
2. Promote and support long term fundraisers
3. Establish safeguards for managing League expenditures and income with regard to all activities

F. Increase active membership to 40% at General Membership meetings (GMM)
Strategies
1. Send email reminders before each GMM and event
2. Send a newsletter every other month beginning in July (six per year)
3. Publish a calendar of the GMM schedule with program descriptions
4. List meeting and fundraiser events on the Chamber community calendar and in the Leader-Telegram Community Bulletin Board
5. Include a list of upcoming events in each newsletter
6. Reinforce the need for all provisional and active members to attend GMMs
7. Facilitate member communications through the email

G. Update the By-Laws and Policies
Strategies
1. Board will review the updates at the Retreat and make any necessary changes or additions.
2. The updated By-laws and policies will be emailed or mailed to all members for review in late August.
3. At the October GMM, a vote will be taken on the updated by-laws and policies.
